Be Green, Recycle & Help Your Neighborhood Community Center & Schools

Aug. 30, 2010 | 0 comments

The Bay View Community Center’s Family Resource Center, 1320 E. Oklahoma Avenue, would like to invite the community to join them in their efforts to help children by being green. Green efforts not only help the environment, but also help support the programs of the Center and 12 neighborhood elementary schools.

The Center collects the following items year round: Used Cell Phones, Used Ink Jet Printer Cartridges, Used Laser Printer Cartridges, Old Ipods, Campbell’s Soup Labels, General Mills Box Tops for Education, Kemps Milk Caps, Golden Guernsey Caps, Foremost Caps, and Tyson Box Tops.

The impact is huge when recycling items you might otherwise throw away! The Center just received $200.00 from recycling Used Cell Phones and printer cartridges last month alone. This amount can provide nearly 20 families in our Food Pantry with much needed food. Additionally, did you know that each school could receive a maximum of $10,000 a year for each of the following programs: Box Tops for Education and Kemps Milk Caps? Think of all the additional supplies that could be purchased for classrooms and the children in these schools! Did you also know that Campbell’s product labels can help provide products like gym equipment, computers, books, etc.? When communities unite in a cause, the rewards can be huge!

If you do not currently collect for another school or organization, please help by collecting these items and dropping them off in the drop box at the Bay View Community Center. The Center is open Monday-Thursday, 8:30 am – 9:00 pm, Friday, 8:30 am – 6:00 pm and Saturdays, 9:00 am-12:00 pm. The Center will then divide the items for its programs and the items for the following schools: Atlas Preparatory, Burdick, Clement Avenue, Dover Street, Downtown Montessori, Fernwood Montessori, Humboldt Park, St. Lukas, St. Thomas Aquinas Academy, Tippecanoe, Trowbridge, and Zablocki. Together we can make a difference!!!
