South Shore softball wrap-up: May 14

May 11, 2009 | 0 comments

South Milwaukee had a roller-coaster week, alternating wins and losses for five Southeast Conference games and ending up 3-2.

Amanda Blochowicz pitched a three-hitter in a 4-0 victory over visiting Oak Creek on May 9. Kelsey Matuszak, Nikki Jordan, Kristin Molenda and Robyn Primrose each had an RBI, and Amanda Desotell had three hits.

Blochowicz pitched a three-hitter and Desotell scored the only run on a wild pitch in a 1-0 victory over visiting Burlington on May 4. Blochowicz struck out nine.

On May 7, Deanna Gilane had a double among three hits in a 3-2, nine-inning loss at Kenosha Tremper.

Robyn Primrose had four hits, four RBIs and scored twice as the Rockets pounded out 15 hits in a 10-5 victory over visiting Racine Park on May 6.

On May 5, the Rockets outhit visiting Racine Case, 12-10, but made four errors in a 10-5 loss.

"The games we lost, we didn't play solid defense and essentially we beat ourselves," South Milwaukee coach Heather Hanson said. "Our bats are starting to come alive, though. The girls are beginning to make the adjustments they need to in order to be successful at the plate.

"When we play with the intensity and focus that we did against Oak Creek, we are a very good team. We just need that consistently in every inning of every game."

South Milwaukee entered this week at 4-4 in the SEC and 5-5 overall.

St. Francis

The Mariners scored in the top of the eighth to win for the first time this season in a 6-5 Woodland Conference victory at Wauwatosa West on May 5.

A three-run sixth gave the Mariners a 3-1 lead. Wauwatosa West scored in the bottom of the sixth to close to 3-2. St. Francis scored twice in the top of the seventh, but the Trojans tied the score with three runs.

Brittney Tyborski pitched all eight innings and got the victory. Amanda Scherbarth had a double and a triple for the Mariners.

The rest of the week was rough as the Mariners lost three games that went five innings: to Greendale, 23-1, May 7 and a doubleheader to Whitnall, 10-0 and 11-0, May 8. The Mariners did not get a hit in the second game against Whitnall pitcher Carolyn Dudek. Scherbarth belted a home run against Greendale.
