Beulah Brinton House Goes International

Who Do You Think You Are, Paul Mercurio, international

The Beulah Brinton House was filmed on June 26 for a segment of the Australian version of the television show, “Who Do You Think You Are?” The program helps celebrities trace their historic roots.

During the next season, the program will feature Paul Mercurio, an Australian film and television actor, dancer and personality.  He was a principal dancer with Sydney Dance Company and founded the Australian Choreographic Ensemble. Mercurio appeared in the film Strictly Ballroom among others.

Paul Mercurio’s grandparents, Vince Mercurio and Mickey Miller (who lived on Lenox Street and used to run the Patio Club Restaurant) met at the Beulah Brinton House during a party in the 1920s. Their son, August “Gus” Mercurio (who is Paul’s father) moved to Australia as a young man. Paul’s cousin, Scott Dragan (son of Gus’ sister Connie, is a former Bay View resident and appears in the program. Scott has promised to provide BVHS with a dvd copy of the program.

We were happy to give them a tour of the house, discuss the way Beulah Brinton made her home a center of cultural and recreational life in Bay View, and share our hopes for restoring the house to that role for our current community.
